Clean Inside and Out

        A cup used for show needs to be clean only on the outside.

        But when you take that cup off the shelf and make it a vessel for service, cleanliness on the inside suddenly becomes a concern.

        Similarly, the Christian whose ambition is to be filled with the Spirit finds being pure in heart a prerequisite.

        Paul's prayer in Ephesians, chapter 3 says,

 "That you might be filled with the fullness of God." 

Jesus' prayer in John, chapter 15 says: 

"Abide in me and I in you."

        The abiding presence of God's Son in our hearts virtually guarantees that cleanliness.

"Create in me a clean heart, oh God; 
and renew a right spirit within me."
